The colorful ceremony, which was held from 26th to 27th January 2012, was a culmination of months of hard work by Kenyan women organizations under the leadership of Amb. Prof. Maria Nzomo who, through a consultative process, developed what promises to be one of the most important tools in the struggle for women’s’ leadership in Kenya under the new constitutional dispensation. Women Empowerment Link coordinated the development of the Charter with participation from the over 25 other organizations among them the Centre for Multiparty Democracy which managed the political party dimension.
Transition of Dr. Molly Wamaitha Mwangi.
CMD-Kenya wishes to announce the passing on of one of our gallant upcoming women politicians, Dr. Molly Wamaitha Mwangi who succumbed to sudden death on 27th December 2011. Dr. Molly, who, until her demise, served as CMD-Kenya Focal Person for Central since 2008 when the regional gender platforms were created, suffered sudden death hours after being taken to hospital where she was admitted in critical con cause of women’s representation in national leadership. She was a committed member of the Democratic Party (DP) where she was a member of the national Executive Committee (NEC), among other positions. Dr. Molly was poised to become the running mate for the gubernatorial positions in Murang’a County. Thousands of friends including her women politicians from as far as Mombasa where she conducted her last workshops sponsored by CMD-Kenya , aspirants for various positions in Muranga’ County joined Molly’s family and son, Ken to bid farewell to Molly. We celebrate the times shared with the late Molly as we seek to continue with the cause for which she so firmly believed and shared.
